We have started writers workshop in grade one!! Mrs. Nichol has been so kind to come into our classroom and share her writing expertise with us. So far, she has taught us that all stories have a beginning, middle and end. She told a fantastic story about her and her dog, Lily, going to the dog park on a cold winters day. The kiddos were intent while she told her story. After she was finished telling it, they helped her to identify which part of her story was the beginning. She illustrated the scene that they described to her. The kiddos then did the same for the middle and ending. She then demonstrated how to write what was going on in the picture in a short form! The author makes a promise that the words are always, always about the picture!! After she was done telling the story, they were eager to tell their own stories!
So, we introduced them to their very own Writing Folders. They decorated and colored their folders with 4 of their favorite words and pictures! They turned out marvelously. We then got busy and wrote our own stories. The kiddos did a fabulous job and were eager to share in the authors chair at the end of class. Tonight you will find a worksheet in your child's zippy. Please fill this worksheet out with your child with memories and stories for their lives. This will be put into their writing folder and serve as a tool to help them write their own stories. Stay tuned on Seesaw for the authors sharing their writing!! We have some amazing authors in our class :)
