We have been busy learning about friendship and ways that we connect with people in our classroom, school and community! Today during our buddies period, we read the book "In My Heart: A Book of Feelings" by Jo Witek. The book speaks to our heart as home for many different feelings from happy to brave to sad. Each page is a different layer of the heart that is associated with a particular color and emotion. The kiddos listened intently with their buddies as they made connections with the way the heart was portrayed on each page. After the book was done, we discussed how we can make a difference and connect with people who may be feeling mad, sad or shy in our school and community. Many of the kiddos suggested that writing a note, giving a hug or smiling at someone would help them feel better. I then proposed that we create kindness stones to spread love and kindness for those who may be needing it! The kiddos got busy making the stones by writing a nice thought on one side and a heart on the other. We then gathered up all the stones, put them in a bowl, and left them at the front of the school with a note so anyone can take one to cheer up their day and spread love and kindness. Check out these busy difference makers!! “In a world where you can be anything, be kind.” -Jennifer Dukes Lee
