Grade One land reached an all-time high for excitement this morning when we were greeted with a strange purple creature on the wall. Many of the kids guessed what on Earth it could be!! Shortly upon arrival, the kiddos and I headed down to the library to meet with our other grade one friends! Mrs. Vogel read us a fantastic book called "My Very Own Octopus" by Bernard Most to help us figure out we would be starting a new project all about characteristics of living things that live under the sea. The reading sparked our imaginations as the author told a story about a cooking, cleaning and playful octopus. It made me want one for the classroom (to clean-up after explore time!!) Mrs. Forster then taught us a superong about a silly, slippery fish that was eaten up (gulp, gulp!). After the song was over, we finally figured out what the giant purple creature could possibly be outside of our grade one rooms! It was an octopus BUT it was missing a few things- Its 8 tentacles!! I then presented to the kiddos that we would be working on a giant group plan together in our rooms to make these legs. We followed an AB pattern and created chains of 100!! Check out our friends working together to create the legs. Our hardwork sure paid off. Check out the video on Seesaw of our of Giant Octopus that stretches into each grade one room. Tomorrow's challenge- to pick a name!! Stay tuned.
