This week we have begun new math centers. We are continuing to work on our number sense with these fun activities! Say, Make, Write: First they pick a card from the basket, say the question (some were choosing to write it down as they say it), make it on the number line, then lastly, write the question with the answer. This activity is giving the kiddos hands on experience with those tricky subtraction questions! One more, one less: First the kiddos roll the dice, put the number in the middle and write down one more and one less. They are able to use a number line need or can have the option to challenge themselves by only using their brain! Once they are finished, they are also challenged to go back and write the number sentence. ( ex: #+1= ___or #-1= ____) Bean flip: At this center, we are working on solidifying out friends to 10. They put the 10 beans into the basket, shake them up, dump them out and then record the different colors onto their paper. Make ten: This center is also working on those friends to ten! Here we are using cards to make friends to ten pairs. After a pair is picked up, new cards are dealt in their place to continuously play. This center has been a total hit!! Hundreds chart: At this center, the kids are challenged to write numbers 1-100. They are able to use a hundreds chart if they need, or can do it on their own. Once they are done, they put the gems on all the 10s and practice skip counting.
We have one more center, which is on Seesaw. Stay tuned to see your child's learning on their online portfolio!!
