This week in Grade One, we have started reading our very first novel "Flat Stanley" by Jeff Brown! Stanley was a regular guy, until one night while he was asleep, a bulletin board that was hanging above his bed, fell down and flattened him. Stanley was unphased and in fact only woke up to his brother's shreik, as he awoke to the flattened scene. His parents took him to the doctor to ensure he was okay. Dr. Dan let him know that he was fine but would need to make some lifestyle changes as his body transformed from 3D to 2D- Hence earning the name, Flat Stanely. We are sure excited to embark on our Flat Stanley adventure and read more about what his transformation has to offer. The kiddos practiced a reading response today called story mapping. We summerized the chapter into a few sentences and drew a picture that best respresented what we read today. Here are some pictures of the kiddos hard at work: The kiddos were so excited about Flat Stanley that we decided to make him into an art project! We followed a guided drawing lead by myself, outlined the drawing with sharpie and then used watercolor paints to fill him in. Stay tuned this week as these paintings come to life!! Just a reminder that we are going on a field trip this Friday, April 5th, to see Mecca Productions perform Flat Stanley. We will be back before regular home time. Have a great week!!
